Why Setting Expectations Early Makes Your Wedding Day Run Smoother
I recently created a funny Instagram video about the importance of setting expectations before the wedding day. It is deliberately exaggerated, but there is a serious point behind it.
After 15 years of photographing and filming weddings across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire and the wider Midlands, I’ve learned that the smoothest wedding days are usually the ones where timings and expectations have been talked through properly beforehand.
Couples often want relaxed, natural wedding photography and videography — and that is exactly how I prefer to work. But natural does not mean unplanned. Things like group photos, couple portraits, speeches, golden hour photos, drone footage and video coverage all need a little bit of realistic planning so the day still feels calm and enjoyable.
That is why I always like to talk through the wedding day properly before the date arrives. It helps make sure we capture the important moments without the day feeling staged, rushed or stressful.
So while the video is just for fun, the message is genuine: good planning makes a big difference.
