Montenegro 2026: A Filmmaker's Paradise

Before wedding season kicked into full swing, we escaped to Montenegro for a family holiday and, unsurprisingly, I couldn't resist taking the cameras with me.

As someone who spends most weekends documenting weddings across Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Yorkshire and beyond, it's impossible not to see the world through a storyteller's eyes. Montenegro turned out to be one of the most visually stunning countries I've ever visited.

From dramatic mountain roads and medieval coastal towns to crystal-clear waters and breathtaking sunsets, every corner seemed designed for photography and video.

The Bay of Kotor

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly the Bay of Kotor.

Often compared to the Norwegian fjords, the bay is surrounded by towering mountains that plunge straight into the Adriatic Sea. Whether viewed from the waterfront restaurants, the winding mountain roads above, or the famous Kotor Cable Car, the scenery is simply spectacular.

One of my favourite moments was sitting waterside with my family, planning the next adventure while watching boats drift across the bay beneath the mountains.

Perast – A Hidden Gem

Perast quickly became one of our favourite places.

This small historic town feels almost untouched, with beautiful stone buildings, waterfront cafés and incredible views across the bay. It offers the sort of atmosphere that encourages you to slow down, enjoy a meal, and simply take everything in.

For anyone interested in photography, Perast is packed with opportunities for stunning images throughout the day, particularly during golden hour.

Why Montenegro Surprised Us

Montenegro isn't usually the first destination people think of when planning a European holiday, but perhaps it should be.

The country offers:

  • Stunning coastline
  • Historic old towns
  • Mountain scenery
  • Incredible food
  • Friendly locals
  • Excellent value compared to many Mediterranean destinations

It genuinely felt like discovering one of Europe's best-kept secrets.

Behind the Video

As well as capturing family memories, the trip gave me a chance to experiment with some new filming techniques and create a cinematic travel film documenting our adventure.

The same storytelling approach I use when creating wedding films naturally carried across into the travel footage—focusing on atmosphere, emotion and the moments that make a place memorable.

I hope you enjoy watching our Montenegro adventure as much as we enjoyed experiencing it.
